George L. Day Memorial Foundation

September 15, 2012
The first annual "Fireman's Charity Ball" softball tournament was underway. We had two men's teams, and two co-ed teams.  So in all fairness we took all the guys from co-ed and formed another men's team, so we could have a true round robin for the men's bracket.  The co-ed teams still played and had fun, but it was important that we establish a good relationship with the participants, so by word of mouth our tournament could grow.  Even though we only had 4 paying teams, with the silent auction items, selling shirts, and coozies, we were able to donate monies to more than what we had initially imagined.

Murat Shrine Transportation Fund       $1,000.00            This fund provides free transportation to children that need to be moved to one of the Shrine Children’s Hospitals for specialty treatment. The drivers of this transport volunteer their time. George was looking forward to being able to give his time to this cause in his retirement.

Murat Shrine Business Connection       $1,000.00            Scholarship Dreams is a program that provides scholarships to young men and women who are or have been patients of Shrine Hospitals. This scholarship is good for any Indiana school. We are pleased to be able to provide this amount for the George L. Day Memorial Scholarship.

Murat Shrine Fireman’s Club                  $250.00            This club is raising money to refurbish the fire truck they use for parades. George hauled this truck all over the United States for Shrine parades. He was privileged to drive it in those and many other parades over the years. We are pleased to help provide funds to aid in the “spit and polish” of this vehicle.

We could not have been able to accomplish any of this with out the help of good friends, family and the good Lord above.

WOW!!!

Who knew that when we decided to concentrate on just co-ed that we would be creating an opportunity to bring back a tournament to Indianapolis that Dad played in so many years ago.  Chris received a phone call on Tuesday….some fireman were looking to have a tournament.

We met with them on Wednesday.  They wanted to bring back the old Mike Kriech softball tournaments that were so popular in the 1970’s and 1980’s.   Fire Department teams would come from across the state to play in the two day event.  Fort Wayne, Gary, Hammond, Terre Haute, and I think some from out of state as well, if I remember correctly.  It will take a few years to build up that clientele again, but we have high hopes.

They want to bring back that type of tournament, but under our umbrella.  So, we will have a co-ed and a men’s division at the 3rd Annual Fireman’s Charity Ball Softball Tournament!!!

September 20th & 21st, 2014

Silent auction will be on Saturday only.
Co-ed will be Saturday only.
Men will be two day.  Double Elimination on Saturday, single on Sunday.
Home run Derby at ~4:00, $20.00 buy in prize is 50%

The Fireman's Charity Ball is open to any team, not just Fireman Department teams, so get your Police, EMS, Work, Church, or just your Friends together and sign up today.

New forms are attached to the Fireman's Charity Ball Page.

RETURNING IN 2017

at Chuck Klein Softball Complex

MORE INFORMATION TO COME!

July 2012
While directing a group of children at the Vacation Bible school ending program during Sunday morning services, I recieved a text from my sister.  She knew I was at church....she had an idea.  We had been trying to find a way to honor Dad, and when she came up with a softball tournament, we had the answer.  We already had the place, Chuck Klein softball Complex on the west side of Indy.  We played ball at that location before it was named Chuck Klein.  Day Trucking was the women's softball team that Dad coached.  Mom and Chris played on it, and I worked my way up through the ranks of "bat' girl to scorekeeper.  After years away from softball, Chris and I got back in to co-ed softball, again at Chuck Klein.  Now WHEN.  After checking availability, the park was ours on the weekend of the first anniversary of Daddy's death.  This was going to be a huge project, but we managed it.

We have listened to popular demand and changed the date of the Fireman's Charity Ball to October 24th, 2015.  Another (larger) softball tournament was going on, on our original date, and the forecast doesn't look that great. (been there done that - playing in the mud)  So the date has been changed.

So you still have time to get your team registered, order your shirts, and get excited about some softball to raise money to help out the community.

WE keep our donations localType your paragraph here.

Well, the best laid plans.....If something can go wrong it will......Murphy's Law......The past few weeks have felt that way to us.  The renovation plans for Chuck Klein have been sent back to the drawing board, a traffic incident occurred that had our lived on hold for over a week, so in order to put on a successful tournament, we have moved the Fireman's Charity Ball back to the original month of September.
September 21, 2013 is the new date.
The Revised Forms on Fireman's Charity Ball Tab.  The new registration and sponsorship deadline is September 7th.  Contact us if you have any questions.
